The Poet of Poverty is coming to Cherry Hill

January 20, 2010
7:00 pmto9:00 pm

This is a film about one man’s words.

This searing film tells the story of Camden through the eyes of its most poetic defender, Father Michael Doyle, the Poet of Poverty. Narrated by Martin Sheen, Father Doyle’s words and poems bear witness to the disproportionate suffering born by the people of Camden. His words, originally written to supporters of Sacred Heart Church in Camden, express anger, sadness and despair, but also delight in small accomplishments of the community and Father Doyle’s hope for the children of the city.

After the film, join Father Doyle and others for a conversation about the current state of Camden, its grassroots energy and the city’s connection to its neighbors.

Location: Cherry Hill Library
1100 Kings Highway North
Cherry Hill, NJ

There is no charge for the event, but we would like to know who’s coming.

Did you know that one of the tenets of sustainability is social justice? Cherry Hill and Camden are intimately connected. When we flush our toilets, throw out our garbage or toss our scrap metal, guess where it goes? There is no such thing as “away”. Read more on the SCH blog about this connection and our plans to collaborate with the Waterfront South community in Camden.

This event is co-sponsored by the Cherry Hill Public Library and the Faith and Sustainability & the Regional/Urban Partnerships for Sustainability task forces of SCH.
