Pebble Hill Interfaith Church, Doylestown, Peace and Social Justice Committee will be holding a public program on the Pennsylvania Gas Drilling Boom and Water Pollution on Sunday, January 10th at 1:00 P.M.
A gas drilling boom is starting in Pennsylvania and New York. Each well uses many millions of gallons of water and creates millions of gallons of highly toxic waste, which can not be processed by current sewage treatment plants. Many thousands of wells are planed in watersheds providing drinking water for Philadelphia and New York City. The EPA warns that 9 million residents of NYC are currently at risk. Pennsylvania is just starting to consider gas drilling regulation.
We will show a pre-release version of ‘Gasland,’ a documentary on devastation in North Texas and Wyoming caused by gas drilling. This film by local cinematographer Josh Fox will premier at the Sundance 2010 Film Festival. Tracy Carluccio from Delaware Riverkeeper Network will give a presentation on their ongoing gas drilling legislative efforts. A discussion on how we can contribute will follow.
Pebble Hill Interfaith Church is located at 320 Edison-Furlong Rd. Doylestown, PA 18901 off of Rte. 611 less than 10 minutes from Downtown Doylestown.
