SAVE THE DATE: Trick or Treat at the Philadelphia EPA Oct 30!
We need your help and the timing is critical.
Just last month (Sept. 11th, 2009), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) put a hold on 79 Mountaintop Removal mining permits. We must keep the pressure on the EPA to uphold the Clean Water Act and deny all new coal mining permits. Mountaintop Removal coal mining has destroyed 470 of America’s oldest and most diverse mountain ecosystems by literally obliterating moutaintops. On October 30th, we’ll stand with Appalachian coal communities and tell the EPA that Mountaintop Removal (MTR) is a TRICK, not a TREAT!
Where: Philly EPA Office on 17th St between JFK Blvd & Arch St.
Philadelphia, PA
What: Halloween-themed protest of the deadly practice of mountaintop removal
RSVP to: amy@energyjustice.net or robinmarkle@gmail.com
The EPA is reviewing mining permits at the Philadelphia and Atlanta EPA offices, so it’s crucial that we demand an end to MTR!

Before coming to this direct action event, please take a moment to write your representative on this issue. Congress is considering legislation that could vastly improve the fortunes of coal communities, please sign the petition to stop valley fills.
A timeline of the Obama administration’s action and inaction on mountaintop removal mining is attached.
See you on Oct. 30th!
