Here is another thought-provoking post by John Michael Greer, this one on energy consumption by the Internet and thoughts on appropriate technology for an era of energy decline. For those who don’t remember him, E.F. Schumacher (mentioned at the end of Greer’s article) was the author of “Small Is Beautiful,” a well-known early book advocating voluntary simplicity and local resilience:
