The Tu B’Shevat Seder will include a light supper and holiday refreshments.
This unique Tu B’Shevat Seder ritual was originally developed by KEHILLAT MISHPAKHOT, “Community of Families” in Hebrew, an experimental Havurah, to explore the culture of sustainability. The Community, a re-creation of tribal groups in the modern world, consisted of people who related to others in a hands-on cooperative friendship circle. Family life in warm supportive communities is a human need, equally important to all cultures and religions. Members of Kehillat Mishpakhot tried to integrate work life, home life, spiritual life, and child rearing into a more satisfying total way of life – that would be in balance with the resources of Planet Earth and the living creatures that share this world with us.
The TU B’SHEVAT SEDER, New Year of the Trees, originated among the medieval Jewish mystics in S’fat. The ecological message of this holiday is even more important today. Joy and spiritual uplift are key parts of building a sustainable world future.
